Conglomerate Bloc

La Commission generale de terminologie et de neologie has decided that the word "blog" needed an "official" French equivalent. The result: bloc-note. Or "note pad," which can be abbreviated bloc or "pad." Is it really that important?

Netscape 8 ... Why Bother?

Netscape has about 1% of the total browser market, and its new browser is running into one problem after another. Why bother? I can't think of a reason. Just download Firefox.

Andrew Goldstein's Goal

Andrew Goldstein is a lacrosse goalie. An All-American. He is being featured today at ESPN as the "most accomplished male, team-sport athlete in North America to be openly gay during his playing career." I don't think sexual orientation mattered to anyone chasing him in when he ran the length of the field to score a goal against Syracuse. Click the title link to watch the video.

Hot Dog!

This is bound to come as a surprise to many people:

You know those hot dogs that you know and love, and can't wait to eat this time of year? The ones served at Katz's Delicatessen, Gray's Papaya, Papaya King, the legendary Dominick's truck in Queens and the best "dirty water dog" carts? They're all the same dog, manufactured by Marathon Enterprises, of East Rutherford, N.J., the parent company of Sabrett. They may vary in size, preparation and condiment selection (and Papaya King has Marathon add a secret spice to its mixture), but they're the same ol' dog.

But the real reason for this link is the hot dog slide show. Don't watch that on an empty stomach, or you will have some serious cravings.

The Brain's Sarcasm Sensor

Interesting story about research on patients with brain damage who do not understand sarcasm. I wonder if you can test for brain damage by observing reactions to sarcasm? I know some people who would be great subjects.
