Specialty B-Schools

Wisconsin is one of the business schools featured in this Business Week article on mid-tier schools that are attempting to compete with the top schools by offering specialty MBA tracks. Dean Mike Knetter's pitch: "We want to be the school of choice for students who have a clear vision from the outset."

Knetter is also spearheading a building expansion, which recent hit a snag because the plans exceeded the budget. But this will further enhance the attractiveness of a program that is regularly getting props.

Here Come the Twins!

Last week, I almost gave them up for dead. They were dropping like a stone in the American League standings, and ESPN was writing about what went wrong in Minnesota. Last night, the Twins beat the division-leading White Sox for the fourth straight time in the last two weeks. The Twins have won 8 of their last 10 games, and for the first time, you can hear the worry in the voices of the White Sox players, who are looking over their shoulders at Minnesota and Cleveland. This is the best part of the year for baseball fans.

The Twins Languish

I just returned from a brief trip to Minneapolis, and everyone is down on the Twins. The diagnosis is pretty straightforward: great pitchers, no hitters. I am still hoping for a late charge at the wild card.
