Conglomerate Bloc

La Commission generale de terminologie et de neologie has decided that the word "blog" needed an "official" French equivalent. The result: bloc-note. Or "note pad," which can be abbreviated bloc or "pad." Is it really that important?

The First Rule of Blogging?

Seth Godin springboards from a bank clock to this insight: "The best stories change over time. They change in ways that fascinate the consumer, and more important, they change in ways that are fun or important to talk about." Although Seth doesn't connect his insight to blogging, I have concluded that this is perhaps the first rule of successful blogging. People want new content every time they check in.

Too Much Blogging at GM?

Bob Lutz and Gary Cowger, whose blog I described as "surprisingly cool" have been reassigned within GM. "[A]nalysts saw the move as a sign of frustration in the lack of progress in fixing the company's biggest business, which has been led by Messrs. Lutz and Cowger since 2001." Hmm. I guess corporate blogging is not a panacea.

The Life of a Professional Blogger

Last week, Jeremy Wright was making news by being denied entrance to the U.S. from Canada, partly on grounds that the INS could not believe he made his living as a blogger. Just in case you have caught yourself daydreaming about such a life, check out Jeremy's most recent post, begging for airfare and conference fees. Hmm, now that I think about it, he sounds like a professor!

GM Podcasts Product Launch

A couple of weeks ago, I blogged about corporate blogs, including GM's blog, The Fast Lane. Although I own two GM cars, I have never been a big booster, but I like the innovation shown by the company in podcasting the details of the new Pontiac Solstice.
