Jib Jab's Year in Review

This video isn't knee-slappingly funny, but it's clever and well done.

Watergate Irony

Mark Felt's grandson and Richard Nixon's grand nephew (is that right? the grandson of his borther?) both attend Hastings College of Law. This is the story of their interaction, but I thought this was the topper:

When asked about the connection between Mr. Jones and Mr. Nixon, Amy DerBedrosian, a spokeswoman for Hastings College, said there was a further link. Among the graduates last year was Matthew McGovern-Rowen, the grandson of former Senator George McGovern, the 1972 Democratic presidential nominee.

This whole Deep Throat thing is such a flashback. I remember disliking McGovern immensely, presumably because my parents disliked him. One day on the playground, the boys in my class separated into Nixonites and McGovernites for football. One of my friends couldn't figure out which team to choose, as he had declared his undying loyalty to Edward Muskie. We were 10 years old.

Feingold For President?

Russ Feingold is getting a divorce, for a second time. I think this tips enough votes against that any small hope he had is gone. Thanks to Ann for the tip.

Gay Marriage Opponent Has Gay Wedding

That looks like a headline from The Onion, but it is from the Boston Globe about Arthur J. Finkelstein. Much of politics nowadays involves spotting little hypocrisies in opponents, and I generally abhor the game of "gotcha." But this takes hypocrisy to a new level.

By the way, the Globe was caught overreaching. The original story read: " Arthur J. Finkelstein, 59, has advised Governor Mitt Romney ..." A "clarification" now on the website states: "Finkelstein conducted one poll for Romney in 2002 before he entered the race for governor."

Thanks to Carpundit for the link.

"We're not a propaganda agency"

These are the words of Richard A. Boucher, a State Department spokesman. You can read the story and decide for yourself, but I find this very disturbing.

Kofi Annan Defends the UN
From the W$J editorial page: "In my eight years as secretary-general, I had already done a lot -- with the support of member states, often led by the U.S. -- to make the U.N. more coherent and efficient. Now we need to make it more transparent and accountable -- not only to diplomats representing member governments, but also directly to the public." The UN has never been a democratic institution, and has no mechanism of direct public accountability. That's the problem, for which there is no good solution.

Condi For President Links
Instapundit has a whole collection of links. Seems like Ann was the first on this bandwagon a couple of weeks ago, but who can find anything over there without a search box? In any event, I am still watching the bandwagons form, withholding judgment.

President Bush & Steroids
If the War in Iraq doesn't topple President Bush, maybe charges that he knew about rampant steroid use on the Texas Rangers in the early 1990s will do the job. Or maybe Jose Canseco is just trying to sell books.
